Alton Brown's GOOD EATS Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Alton Brown's GOOD EATS Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz 100% Blue Agave Tequila
  • 2 tbs Agave Nectar
  • 1/2 Hamlin or Valencia Orange, quartered
  • 2 Limes, quartered
  • 2 Limes, halved
  • 1 thin lime slice (for garnish)
  • 1 tbs Kosher Salt
  • 3/4 cup Ice

Directions:

In one saucer, pour the tablespoon of kosher salt. In a second saucer, pour 1/2 ounce of 100% Blue Agave Tequila.

Dip the rim of a 12 ounce martini or cocktail glass into the saucer containing the tequila. Remove the glass (keeping it upside down) and count to 10 to allow some of the tequila to drip away and evaporate. Then, dip the rim of the glass into the saucer with the kosher salt, give it a wiggle, tap off the excess and invert. Your glass is now ready to receive your Margarita.

Place your juice reamer over the cocktail shaker and extract the juice from 2 limes you have cut in half. (Remember to keep one thin slice of one of these lime halves for a garnish - cut this slice before juicing the limes.)
Next, dump the quartered oranges and quartered limes into the shaker.

Add 2 tablespoons of Agave Nectar into the shaker, on top of the lime juice and the quartered limes and oranges.

Muddle this all together for two full minutes to release the juices and the oils in the citrus skins.

After muddling for two minutes, strain into a glass (or the top of the shaker, if it is a "Boston" style shaker).

Add 1-1/2 of the 100% Blue Agave Tequila, PLUS the 1/2 ounce you used in the saucer to rim the glass.

Place 3/4 of a cup of ice into your cocktail shaker and pour the mixed ingredients over the ice.

Shake this for a FULL THIRTY SECONDS. Keep shaking until you see frost start to form on the outside of the shaker and it becomes ice cold.

Then, simply strain into the prepared glass and apply the lime wheel for garnish.

Apple Margarita (Frozen) Recipe

Find out how to make Apple Margarita (Frozen) from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 oz tequila
  • 1 oz apple brandy
  • 2 tbsp applesauce
  • 1 oz sour mix
  • cinnamon and sugar for glass rimming
  • apple wedge for garnish

Directions:

1. Pour the ingredients into a blender.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. If desired, wet the rim of a chilled margarita glass with apple brandy and rim the glass with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
4. Pour contents into the glass.
5. Garnish with the green apple wedge.

Notes:

Apple brandy and applesauce make a great variation of the classic frozen Margarita. If the mix is too thick once blended, add more applesauce or sour mix: if it's too thin, add more ice. I like to garnish with a wedge of green apple.

Beach-House Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Beach-House Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 shots of tequila; silver, 100% agave recommended
  • 1 shot triple sec
  • 1 lime
  • ice
  • salt... optional

Directions:

If you prefer your margaritas with salt, rim your glass with salt.

Slice the lime into eighths (half it, and then quarter the halves) leaving out a slice for a garnish if you wish.

In a shaker, muddle the lime with the triple sec for sixty seconds. If you forgot to bring your muddler on vacation, the handle of a screwdriver (washed!) or pretty much any blunt object will work in a pinch. If you've forgotten to bring a shaker on vacation with you, two cups that are different sizes make a wonderful make-shift shaker.

Add the tequila and enough ice to fill the shaker 1/3 of the way up and shake for thirty seconds.

Strain into your glass and enjoy.

Notes:

This is an easy margarita recipe to remember and make on vacation.

Best Margarita Ever Recipe

Find out how to make Best Margarita Ever from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Two parts tequila (good tequila is always better...)
  • One part Grand Marnier (this is a critical part... trust me, don't go cheap on the citrus liqueur. Cointreau also goes very well, but really doesn't have the same aromatic flavor that Grand Marnier has; try them side-by-side; they have totally different flavors... if you cheat here with Triple Sec or Orange Curaçao, you must add a dash of orange bitters!)
  • One and a half parts fresh lime juice.
  • One part simple syrup.
  • One part Limoncello (a fairly inexpensive type of lemon liqueur that isn't sour but has lots of big citrus flavor... this is, I think, the secret ingredient in most restaurant margaritas— that extra citrus flavor adds a lot without making the drink more tart).
  • Pinch of salt. Very little will go a long way... alternatively, rim the glass with coarse salt.

Directions:

Mix with 5-6 ice cubes in a shaker and shake violently for about 15 seconds (until ice starts to crystallize on the outside of your metal shaker). Pour contents into an old-fashioned glass and, for a nice visual appeal, finish with a few drops of grenadine (let it sink to the bottom for a sweet finish). Add a couple of skinny straws and a slice of lime if you like. Trust me!

Hint: too strong for your taste? Stir in some lemon-lime soda— don't shake!

Notes:

This is the best margarita recipe, capturing the something that makes a restaurant margarita so much better than the homemade versions.

After fiddling with this for a while, I've found that it's better to use fresh lime and syrup rather than sour mix. Even though there are good sour mixes out there, I find they don't have quite the same freshness as when you use a fresh lime. In any case, if you can't get fresh limes or don't have five minutes to make simple syrup, you can substitute a quality sour mix—no neon yellow stuff, please!—for the lime juice and simple syrup above.

Best Margaritas with Fresh Lime Recipe

Find out how to make Best Margaritas with Fresh Lime from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 teaspoons grated lime zest
  • 1/2 cup lime juice from 2 to 3 medium limes
  • 4 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice from 2 to 3 medium lemons
  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar
  • pinch table salt
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 1 cup 100 percent agave tequila , such as Don Julio Reposado Tequila
  • 1/4 cup Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 cup Triple Sec

Directions:

1. Combine lime zest and juice, lemon zest and juice, sugar, and salt in large liquid measuring cup; cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until flavors meld, 24 hours.

2. Divide 1 cup crushed ice between 4 or 6 margarita or double old-fashioned glasses. Strain juice mixture into 1-quart pitcher or cocktail shaker. Add tequila, Grand Marnier, and Triple Sec, and remaining crushed ice; stir or shake until thoroughly combined and chilled, 20 to 60 seconds. Strain into ice-filled glasses; serve immediately.

Notes:

The real secret to a great Margarita is choosing the best tequila, so save these for special occasions with just a few friends. Start this recipe the day before your party – it’s worth it. The longer the zest and juice mixture is allowed to steep, the more developed the citrus flavors in the finished margaritas - the full 24 hours is best, although the margaritas will still be great if the mixture is steeped only for the minimum 4 hours.

Bret's Dirtyman Tailgate Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Bret's Dirtyman Tailgate Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • One Whole Bottle (fifth?) of Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila
  • One Small Can of Frozen Limeade Concentrate
  • Triple Sec

Directions:

You take an empty one gallon water/milk jug. Pour in a whole bottle (a fifth?) of Jose Cuervo Gold. (There's a reason why it's called Dirtyman) Then you add one of those small cans of frozen limeade concentrate. Add one less can of water than what the instructions on the can tell you. This is optional but you can add a two-second free pour of triple sec if you have some. Next put the cap on and shake it up holding the jug with one hand over your head. Very important. Serve in a Solo plastic cup or drink straight from the jug.

Notes:

Great for tailgating!

  • 4 ounces tequila
  • 2 ounces Cointreau, Triple Sec or another favorite orange-flavored liqueur

  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup, or 1/2 teasppon of sugar, depending on how sour your limes are.

Simple Syrup Easy to make: Take one part sugar and one part water, bring it to a boil, stir to dissolve and cool. Can be made as far in advance as you like; just store it in the fridge.

Do yourself a favor & get the good kind of tequila, 100 percent agave. This recipe makes two drinks. Do not operate heavy machinery (i.e. your car) after consuming.

Cooks Illustrated Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Cooks Illustrated Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup lime juice from 2 to 3 medium limes
  • 4 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice from 2 to 3 medium lemons
  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar
  • pinch table salt
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 1 cup 100 percent agave tequila , preferably Reposado
  • 1 cup Triple Sec

Directions:

1. Combine lime zest and juice, lemon zest and juice, sugar, and salt in large liquid measuring cup; cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until flavors meld, 4 to 24 hours.

2. Divide 1 cup crushed ice between 4 or 6 margarita or double old-fashioned glasses. Strain juice mixture into 1-quart pitcher or cocktail shaker. Add tequila, Triple Sec, and remaining crushed ice; stir or shake until thoroughly combined and chilled, 20 to 60 seconds. Strain into ice-filled glasses; serve immediately.

Notes:

The longer the zest and juice mixture is allowed to steep, the more developed the citrus flavors in the finished margaritas. We recommend steeping for the full 24 hours, although the margaritas will still be great if the mixture is steeped only for the minimum 4 hours. If you're in a rush and need to serve margaritas immediately, omit the zest and skip the steeping process altogether.

We like our margaritas without salt, but with a nice balance of flavors, not dominated by the tequila.

Dad's House Best Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Dad's House Best Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ shots Herradura Anejo Tequila
  • 1 shot Cointreau
  • 1 fresh squeezed lime

Directions:

Pour ingredients into a martini shaker with ice. Shake sharply. Serve this best margarita recipe on the rocks in a glass with a salted rim. (Or, blended, unsalted, whatever your preference.)

You can use a lesser tequila, or substitute triple sec for Cointreau, and you’ll be making one of the other drinks from my favorite Mexican restaurant’s menu. For the best margarita recipe, choice ingredients are key.

Olé !!

Notes:

From dadshouseblog.com

My favorite Mexican restaurant has a margarita list two pages long. Different tequilas, different mixers, and one outcome – a kick ass cocktail. Over the years I’ve sampled enough of their margaritas to hone in on the best margarita recipe.

The secret to the best margarita recipe is using quality ingredients. For me, this means Herradura Anejo tequila, Cointreau, and fresh squeezed limes.

For this clever riff on the "frozen" Margarita, try to use natural lime pops (sold at natural and specialty foods stores) rather than artificially colored and flavored varieties.

Obviously, the Gummi Bear Margarita includes Gummi Bears, which are mixed within the ice, but it also features a fantastic flavored tequila, Voodoo Tiki Blue Dragon, a blue raspberry and kiwi infused tequila. Because Gummi Bears don’t look as good blended or just laying around, this particular Margarita is best served on the rocks with the bears mixed up with the ice.

Hands Down, The Perfect Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Hands Down, The Perfect Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Salt (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • 3 ounces tequila (blanco or reposado)
  • 3/4 ounce Cointreau
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 4 lime wedges (about 1 ounce lime juice)

Directions:

1) Rub one of the lime wedges around the rim of a martini glass. Dip the glass into a layer of salt. Tap the glass once to remove excess salt. (If you wish to give drinkers a choice, rub the lime wedge around only half the glass.)

2) Discard the used lime into a shaker. Fill the shaker with 6-8 ice cubes, tequila, cointreau, simple syrup, and the juice of the remaining 3 lime wedges.

3) Give it five or six hard shakes. Be careful not to over shake or you may "bruise" the margarita with too much water from the melted ice.

4) Strain into the salted martini glass.

5) Drink and enjoy!

Notes:

Forget everything you know about the margarita.

Forget the legends, traditions, and the label on the side of the "just add tequila and triple sec" mixer. Perfect margaritas don't come in buckets. They don't come in plastic cups; and they do not come from what looks like a 7-Eleven Icee machine. They also don't come in bulk–so, forget the pitcher, too.

Each hands down perfect margarita takes time, care, and a bit of effort. It's OK to deviate from the recipe, just know that your margarita won't be as good. If you do choose perfection, this is the way to go.

  • 1 oz sweet and sour mix
  • 1-1/2 - 2 oz freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 oz mango juice
  • coconut shavings

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec
  • 2 oz fresh or frozen strawberries

  • strawberry and/or pineapple for garnish

Directions:

1. Pour the ingredients into a blender.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour contents into a chilled margarita glass.
4. Garnish with the strawberries and pineapple.

Notes:

Travel to the islands (well, at least in your mind) with this Hawaiian Margarita. A great blended cocktail with strong strawberry and pineapple flavor. Skewer a chunk of pineapple along with a couple slices of strawberries for a fruity garnish. If the mix is too thick once blended, add more sour mix or Triple Sec: if it's too thin, add more ice.

Honest-to-Goodness Margaritas for a Crowd Recipe

Find out how to make Honest-to-Goodness Margaritas for a Crowd from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 750-milliliter bottle silver tequila (in this margarita, the better the tequila, the better the drink. Try Herradura, El Tesoro, El Viejito, Patron, or practically any of the 100% agave tequilas that are available in the market)
  • 1 to 2 cups (1/3 to 2/3 of a 750-milliliter bottle) triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice, plus several tablespoons extra for rimming the glasses
  • Several tablespoons coarse (kosher-type) salt, for rimming the glasses
  • About a gallon of ice cubes

Directions:

1. Just before serving, in a half-gallon pitcher combine the tequila, the minimum amount of triple sec or Cointreau, and the lime juice. Taste and add more of the orange liqueur if you think your margaritas need more sweet oranginess to balance the other flavors. Remember, you're tasting it warm and undiluted: when chilled and diluted, the flavors will be mellower and the lime's tartness will be more compelling (tangy, warm champagne is not nearly as inviting as ice-cold).

2. Pour several tablespoons of lime juice onto one small plate, several tablespoons coarse salt onto another. Have martini glasses at hand (for an extra special touch, you can chill them). I like the 5-ounce size, since that size drink will stay cold from first sip to last. As your guests ask for their margaritas, invert a glass into the plate with the lime juice to moisten the rim, then lightly dip into the plate with the salt. For each drink measure 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) of the margarita mixture into a cocktail shaker I can do 3 drinks at a time comfortably in mine. If you have a 2-ounce ladle that you can keep in the pitcher, measuring goes much faster. Add ice cubes (I put in 5 cubes for 1, 8 for 2, and 10 for 3). Secure the lid and top and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds. Strain into the salt-crusted glasses and hand off to the lucky recipients.

Notes:

By Rick Bayless, Mexican food authority, award-winning author, and owner of Frontera Grill and Topolobampo in Chicago.

In the age of the 32-ounce (or larger) Big Gulps and the like, a small drink may not necessarily seem fashionable. But large quantity is not always related to good quality, as is attested by those mammoth margaritas, laced as they are with artificially flavored sweet-and-sour mix. This margarita is the real thing purity and refreshing freshness that's strained into martini glasses after a vigorous rumble with ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Just before your guests arrive, combine the tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice in a pitcher, and you'll be poised for the shaking to begin.

The proportions in this recipe focus a bit more on the flavor of the good tequila. And it's silver (unaged) tequila here, the freshest and most agave-flavored of the tequilas. Reposado (6-month-old) tequila is a little softer, without the bright freshness of a silver, while the añejo (aged) tequila is moving toward the flavor of an aged brandy and I personally don't think that's what margarita flavor is all about.

Makes 20 to 24 old-fashioned margaritas

Horny Toad Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Horny Toad Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz. Tequila Sauza Hornitos
  • 4 oz. Cointreau
  • 6 oz. Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon Sea Salt, half course, no iodine
  • 4 Lemon Slices or Wedges (for decoration)
  • 24 Ice cubes, coarsely crushed

Directions:

Shaking a proper Margarita goes as follows:

- Squeeze lemons until you have 6 fld ounces of juice; Usually this will take about 4 lemons

- Put salt on a soup plate; We like to make our own half course salt by crushing course sea salt in a mortar

- Wet the rim of each glass with lemon juice, put the glass upside down on the soup plate and swirl around to collect a nice band of salt salt, giving it that nice frosted look

- Cut one lemon in half, cut one half into 4 wedges; Cut wedges about halfway through and stick 'm on the rim of the glass for decoration

- Pour the tequila, cointreau, lemon juice and 3 or 4 icecubes in a cocktailshaker

- Crush remainder of ice cubes and distribute over glasses

- Shake tequila, cointreau and lemon juice vigorously for 5 to 10 seconds and pour into glasses

Notes:

The "Horny Toad Margarita" refers to the Tequila Sauza Hornitos, a 100% Agave Tequila, which is the main ingredient in this noble concoction.

Tip: For mixing Margaritas I use the "4-5-6 OTL Margarita Rule":
4 parts ORANGE Liquor
5 parts TEQUILA
6 parts LEMON Juice

A word of caution here: The above quantities will yield 4 great Margaritas. Please note that each glass will contain more than 2 fld ounces of 80 proof liquor.
That's quite a drink! Handle with care!

Jamaica (Hibiscus) Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Jamaica (Hibiscus) Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 shots of chilled Agua de Jamaica (recipe below)
  • 1 shot Tequila Tezón Blanco
  • shot of simple syrup
  • juice from 1/2 a lime
  • lime wedge for garnish

Directions:

  1. Pour the Agua de Jamaica, tequila, simple syrup and lime juice into a chilled cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  2. Shake well.

  3. Strain into a chilled margarita glass.

  4. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus):

  • 2 cups (2 oz) jamaica flowers

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (more if desired)

  • 6 cups water

  1. Bring the water to a boil.

  2. Add the flowers and sugar and stir continuously
while the mixture boils for one minute.

  3. Pour into a non-corrosive bowl and
    steep for 2 hours.

*Note- this flower will stain so do not use a bowl that will stain.

  4. Strain
the mixture through a sieve, pressing on the flower solids to extract as
    much liquid as possible.

  5. Taste for strength and sweetness. If it is too
potent, add water. If it is too tart, add sugar.

  6. Cover and refrigerate until
    time to serve.

Notes:

This is a great recipe for a Margarita that is definitely above average. It uses a sugary water that is flavored with hibiscus flowers that are a wonderful compliment to the bouquet in Tequila Tezón Blanco. It looks beautiful with an unblemished hibiscus in full bloom floating on top.

Kahlua Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Kahlua Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Ice, crushed
  • Kahlua
  • Hershey's Chocolate topping
  • Whole Milk
  • Block of Cadbury's milk chocolate
  • Vanilla ice cream

Directions:

Take the blender, half-fill it with ice, add some kahlua (up to you how much, but you won't taste it until you add about a cup of it), and some (not much) milk.

Blend this for a little bit, the ice should semi-freeze the milk and the kahlua will get cold as well. The ice should be that nice grainy texture.

Add a good dollop of chocolate topping and a scoop of vanilla icecream.

Blend again on medium, keeping an eye on the consistency. You want thick and icy.

Pour into the serving glasses, top with some grated chocolate.

Killer Spring Break Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Killer Spring Break Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz. can Limeade
  • 1 (6 oz. limeade) can - Filled with Silver Tequilla
  • 1/4 (6 oz. limeade) can - Triple Sec
  • 1/2 (6 oz. limeade) can - water
  • 1 - egg white (optional)
  • Kosher salt
  • Lime wedges

Directions:

Fill the blender container 3/4 full with ice. Add all ingredients and blend on Frappe setting until smooth like a slushy. Rub edge of glass with lime and dip into salt. Pour in the Margarita and add a lime wedge.

Add a few grains of Green colored sugar to the blender... it adds just enough color to lightly green up the batch of margaritas!

Notes:

Note: I don't always use the egg white. It adds no taste, just holds the drink together.

I would not be comfortable putting up a recipe with any raw eggs involved in it. Consumption of raw eggs can be very dangerous due to salmonella and other bacteria contamination. The alcohol may or may not kill bacteria in a fresh drink. EDITOR'S NOTE: Almost all eggs sold in US Markets are pasteurized and safe. Anything sold with the USDA Seal should be fine.

  • 3/4 (limeade can) silver tequilla (Patron of course is best but any will do)

Trace margarita glass rim with limes and dip in salt. Poor and enjoy!

Low Carb Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Low Carb Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp orange extract
  • 1 packet Splenda (or 2 tsp powdered)
  • 1 tsp water
  • 1 shot tequila
  • 1/8 tsp lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp lemon juice

Directions:

Mix together the orange extract, Splenda and water. This pretty much is the curocao - orange extract is up to 85% alcohol. Put crushed ice into a shaker and pour this liquid over the ice. Now add in 1 shot tequila, plus the lemon and lime juice. Shake thoroughly and pour into a glass.

You are practically at 0g of carbs here. You get a tiny amount of carbs (let's say 0.4g) from those dashes of lemon and lime juice.

Notes:

Most margarita recipes involve curocao, triple sec or grand marnier. All are LOADED with sugar. This is a great recipe that is pretty much 0g carbs!

Low Carb Sugar-free Sweet and Sour Mix Recipe

Find out how to make Low Carb Sugar-free Sweet and Sour Mix from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 T lime juice
  • 1/4 cup equivalent artificial sweetener (liquid preferred)

Directions:

Combine it all together. Store covered in the refrigerator.

This recipe is really a starting place. You can vary the concentrations of the juices and sweetener depending upon your taste, the particular juices you use, and how much ice you are adding to the drink. You can use this mix to make whiskey sours, daiquiris, margaritas, etc. (Try it with Jack Daniels - yum!) Fresh lemon and limes taste best, but bottled works OK.

Notes:

This is the sweet/sour mixer ONLY. Use this in your favorite margarita as a substitution for the sweet/sour mix.

We have tried several mango margarita recipes over the past few weeks. Found this on the internet tonight and made them - best ones we have had yet! Very easy and delicious!

Mango Margarita-Easy! Recipe

Find out how to make Mango Margarita-Easy! from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 Shots Mango Tequila (try Margaritaville brand)
  • 1 Shot Peach Schnapps
  • .5 Shot Lime Juice
  • Ice
  • Sugar... optional

Directions:

If you'd like, rim your glass with sugar.

Fill your mixer around 1/3 full with ice and then add the liquid ingredients. Shake for 30 seconds and pour into your glass.

Enjoy.

Notes:

If you find this margarita a bit sweet, switch from a 1:2:3 lime juice, schnapps, tequila ratio to a 1:1:2 ratio. I use .75 shot lime juice and schnapps and 1.5 shots of tequila to keep the total amount of liquid the same. If you're able to work partitive proportions after having a couple of margaritas, reward yourself with an extra shot of tequila.

When I can’t find a gallon jug lying around, I just buy a gallon of distilled water from the grocery store for less than a buck and use the water to feed the plants.

Find out how to make Maria's Perfect Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz tequila blanco
  • 2 oz lemon water
  • 1 oz bols triple sec
  • 1 tsp simple syrup

Add the ingredients as you would in any shaken margarita with crushed ice... pour into salted glass

Notes:

If you have ever had a Margarita that was white and tasted quite strong and not limey and artifical tasting it was probably based on this recipe. This is the best Margarita you will ever taste... made with Herradura or Corazon Blanco it is heaven.

There are few drinks that are as satisfying as this one is on a hot summer day. The frozen sweet melon is very cooling and the tequila, well it just makes you feel great! We can buy frozen honeydew melon year round in our area grocery stores. If you cannot, at least 6 hours in advance, cube a large ripe honeydew melon and freeze it. You can buy and cube the melon well in advance and keep it in the freezer for up to 6 months. For a more potent drink that is even more fantastic, float a shot of Midori on top of the glass before serving.

Inspired by the rumor Obama likes margaritas, it incorporates lime, Tito’s Vodka (an All-American spirit made in Texas as a nod to the outgoing President), pineapple juice (in tribute to Obama’s Hawaii connection), a dash of bitters (recognition of the bitter economic pill we are taking) and triple sec (because just a spoonful of sugary orange liqueur will make the economic medicine go down).

Perfect Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Perfect Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 T Tequila (for decorating the glass)
  • 1 T Salt (for decorating the glass)
  • 2 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 2 oz White tequila
  • 2 oz Triple sec or Cointreau
  • 8 Ice cubes

Directions:

Preliminaries:
To make the traditional ring of salt around the rims of the glasses, pour a little tequila into one of the saucers, and the salt into the other. Turn the glasses upside down, one by one, dip the rim first into the tequila, shaking off excess liquid, then into the salt; and set the glass upright.

Making the cocktail:
Measure the fresh lime juice, tequila, and orange liqueur into the container of the blender, pour in ice, and puree, pulsing the machine on and off for a few seconds. If you want a uniform frozen effect, puree until you hear no ice crackling; otherwise leave in a few bits of ice - a matter of taste. Serve at once, pouring into the middle of each glass so as not to disturb the ring of salt.

Pink Raspberry Margarita Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Voodoo Tiki Desert Rose Tequila
  • 1 oz Tequila Rose
  • 1/2 oz crème de noyaux
  • 1/2 oz Chambord
  • 2 1/2 oz cream
  • dash of grenadine
  • sugar for rimming
  • fresh raspberries or strawberries for garnish

1. Rim a chilled margarita glass with sugar.
2. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
3. Shake well.
4. Strain into the prepared glass.
5. Garnish with a cherry and lemon twist.

Notes:

I doubt I’d call this a Margarita, beyond the tequila it does not have a Margarita element at all. Nonetheless, it is an excellent summertime dessert drink. The flavor is a complex mix of prickly pear, almond, raspberry and cream that features the sweetness of Voodoo Tiki Desert Rose Tequila, a prickly pear-infused spirit. The Pink Raspberry Margarita is equally great when served straight up, on the rocks or blended.

The '2 count' ONLY works if you have a "Speed" pourer on the bottle... Yeah just measure it. Otherwise you better REALLY, REALLY like Tequila or it's REALLY, REALLY going to be strong without measuring or a speed pourer.

Tailor Restaurant Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Tailor Restaurant Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup kosher salt
  • 1 wedge lime
  • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) fresh lime juice
  • 2 heaping teaspoons superfine sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) Cointreau or other triple sec orange liqueur
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) reposado tequila
  • About 2 cups ice cubes

Directions:

Spread salt on small plate. Rub lime wedge halfway around rim of 10-ounce glass (such as double old-fashioned). Dip moistened side of glass in salt to lightly coat. Set aside.

In cocktail shaker, stir together lime juice and sugar until sugar partially dissolves (about 5 seconds). Add Cointreau, tequila, and 1 cup ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 25 seconds, then strain into prepared glass. Fill glass with remaining ice cubes.

Notes:

Serves 1
Eben Freeman, bartender of Tailor Restaurant in New York City, developed this adaptation of a classic cocktail. Reposado tequila, aged in oak for at least two months but less than a year, gives the drink a smooth smokiness. If you prefer a more vegetal flavor, you could substitute blanco (unaged) tequila; it's probably best to steer clear of añejo (aged in oak for at least a year but less than three years), which could darken the hue and add unwanted oak, vanilla, or caramel flavors.
To sweeten his Margarita, Freeman trades the traditional sugar syrup for superfine sugar, which gives the drink a slightly grainy texture. Freeman's final signature touch: Only half the glass gets a salted rim.

he tamarind is a sweet and sour fruit with a unique flavor and here it is accented by rimming the glass with chili pepper. Trader Vic's Rock Candy Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Trader Vic's Rock Candy Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces of Patron Silver
  • 1 ounce of Cointreau
  • 4 limes
  • 1 ounce Trader Vic's Rock Candy Syrup
  • Quality non-iodine Salt

Directions:

Chop one lime into 4 wedges, the others in halves. Take one wedge and spread across a Margarita glass (rimming with a quality salt of choice). Keep wedge for garnish and toss other 3 wedges into the eyes of the people staring at you salivating but not offering to help.

Fill shaker 3 quarters up with ice, add 2 ounces Patron silver and 1 ounce Cointreau. Squeeze the halves (of 3 limes) into shaker and top with a good simple syrup. I prefer Trader Vic's "rock candy" for consistancy and taste. (Plus you can give it double duty by using it-and limes-for a real Mai-Tai later).

Notes:

The rock candy syrup works to lessen the harsh tartness of the limes. Less syrup will be needed based on lime freshness. I tend to find that the fresher the lime, the less syrup you need. Make sure to get one of those hand juicers. One squeeze into the shaker helps minimize the 'trash' that can get in with juicing via other methods. Nothing beats fresh lime in a margarita.

Ultimate Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Ultimate Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 'Herradura' Tequila (Reposado)
  • 'Finest Call' Sweet & Sour Mix
  • 'Tropicana' Orange Juice (No Pulp)
  • 'Joaquin's' Triple Sec
  • 'Grand Marnier' Orange Liqueur
  • 1.5 ounces
  • 3.0 ounces
  • 1.0 ounces
  • 0.5 ounces
  • Added to taste (.5 - 2.0 ounces)

Directions:

Combine the tequila, Triple Sec, sweet & sour mix, & orange juice, in a cocktail shaker half-full of ice. Shake well & strain into a frozen salt-rimmed margarita glass. Float the Grand Marnier over the top to your taste (may take some experimentation). I usually double the ingredients to make two at a time.

Notes:

Except for the 'Grand Marnier', the name-brand of the other ingredients could probably be substituted with one's favorite. The name-brands listed are just the ones I typically use. I use 'Reposado' tequila, as I feel 'Anejo' just gets lost in the mixture ('Anejo' I save for drinking straight). As for the inventor/origin, I couldn't say. The recipe was imparted to me by an old friend.

Excellent margarita - and a great tribute to the Twin Towers!! I used slightly less simple syrup (cane), but will try agave nectar in lieu of the simple syrup.

World's Greatest Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make World's Greatest Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 cups good tequila
  • 1/2 cup Grand Marnier
  • 1/3 bottle of beer
  • 1 can frozen lemonade concentrate
  • A big long healthy squirt of Real Lemon
  • A big long healthy squirt of Real Lime
  • Water or Ice to fill up the blender
  • sugar to taste

Directions:

My best results occur when I mix this in a standard blender.

Tequila - Life is too short to drink cheap tequila! Jose Cuervo Gold is the minimum standard. My personal favorite is Jose Cuervo 1800.

And, face it, the margarita will be incrementally better if you jump up to a higher-end brand (besides the better the tequila, the less severe the hangover!).

Experimenting with high-end tequilas will add subtle flavors and allow you to create your own signature margarita.

My latest favorite is a brand called Cazadores recommended to me by Fernando Avelar whose family has a legacy of growing and harvesting the blue agave cactus for tequila in Mexico. Patron Silver Tequila has also been a very good mix.

Grand Marnier - This is as good as is gets. I do not float this on top but rather mix it in with the blender.
A great alternative is the Italian version of Grand Marnier called Gran Gala (it's less expensive and just as good).

1/3 bottle of beer - Yes, you did read that right, a 1/3 bottle of beer. The best results are with a standard bland American icon beer like Budweiser, Coors or Miller. Avoid micro-brews with lots of character as this will leave an aftertaste to your margarita. Beer is one of the few food groups that are less acidic and so the addition of beer to this margarita will make a mellow tasting, smooth drinking formula. It also adds the barest hint of carbonation during mixing. This is one of the 'secret' ingredients and I have never had anyone guess that there was beer in their margarita.

1 can frozen lemonade concentrate - I've experimented with lime-aid, and all sorts of lemonades. You will have to do the same. I avoid the ones with the pulp. Sometimes you will have to add sugar if you've selected a sour brand.

A big long healthy squirt of Real Lemon - This is real lemon juice concentrate and adds the wonderful lemon tanginess a great margarita needs.

You can squeeze an actual lemon, but then you're dealing with the pulp issue.

A big long healthy squirt of Real Lime - This is real lime juice concentrate and also adds the lime tartness for a subtle enhancement.

Water or Ice to fill up the blender - My preference is to add half ice and half water to fill up the blender to the top. This way you are not serving a frozen margarita but a very cold one with shards of crushed ice. The best margaritas are quite concentrated but then poured over a heaping full glass of ice that starts to dilute the power of the cocktail as it melts. Now, lately we've been serving these straight up or "perfect" in a margarita glass or (my personal favorite) a martini glass. Shake it up on the rocks and pour it in straight up. Somehow this promotes more of a sipping approach (very fast sipping often, but still technically sipping)

sugar to taste - As you are completing the mix portion in the blender, you may choose to add sugar to taste. By doing it in a blender you don't have to worry about a granular texture in the drink.

Notes:

To make this a frozen margarita, just substitute ice in the blender for the water that you would normally add. Keep adding the ice until you get the consistency that you would like ... and voila ... a frozen margarita!

Yellow Watermelon Chipotle Margarita Recipe

Find out how to make Yellow Watermelon Chipotle Margarita from this easy Margarita Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon organic sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle
  • lime wedge
  • 2 oz Reposado Tequila
  • 1 1/2 oz watermelon juice
  • 3/4 oz elderflower liqueur
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice

Directions:

Place the sugar, salt and chipotle powder in a small bowl and mix well. Spread on a small plate. Moisten the rim of a cocktail glass with the lime wedge and dip the glass rim in the sugar/salt/chipotle mixture. Set aside.

For the cocktail – Shake all ingredients with ice cubes until a thin layer of frost appears on the outside of the shaker. Pour in the prepared glass and serve immediately!

Notes:

To make the watermelon juice – remove rind and seeds of watermelon and cut flesh in 2” chunks. Place in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped. Then process until smooth and liquidy. Strain through a fine sieve. Transfer juice into large squeeze bottle and refrigerate until ready to use. Refrigerate up to 3 days (after 3 days the juice starts losing its flavor).
